Mountain or Coast? Choosing Your Stay on the Lycian Coast
The best base depends on how you want to spend your days. Here is how three different settings can shape a stay on Türkiye’s Lycian Coast.

A sea view is a wonderful starting point. It does not tell you whether your holiday will revolve around the beach, a village terrace or a quiet hillside above town.
That distinction matters when choosing between The Patara Collection, The Almond Collection and Liberty Villas 33. Each offers a different relationship with the coast, and each will suit a different kind of stay.
David Richards is behind Turquoise Society and the collection websites featured here. This guide explains their different settings from that shared perspective, to help you find the stay that suits you.
Choose the setting that fits your ordinary holiday day, as well as the view that catches your eye.
Start with the day you want to have
Imagine a morning with no excursion booked. Would you want to head towards the water, have a long breakfast in a village setting, or stay beside the pool with the landscape stretching away below you?
Then think about the evening. If you expect to go into Kaş regularly, the drive home is part of your holiday. If you prefer cooking, reading and spending time together at the villa, the house and terrace may matter more than proximity to restaurants.
A coast-focused stay can still involve driving. An inland stay can still include plenty of swimming in the sea. The useful comparison is the effort involved in doing the things you want to do most often.
For a holiday shaped by the coast
The Patara Collection focuses on stays in the Patara area, where the sea, beach and ancient landscape are central to the experience. Its properties have different positions, so choosing the collection is only the first step: the exact villa determines your view and how you reach the water.
This is a natural starting point for travellers who want beach visits and time by the sea to anchor their plans. It can also suit those who enjoy combining a swim with exploring the area, then returning to their own pool and terrace.
Check access carefully. A sea view, a private swimming platform and access to Patara Beach describe different things. Ask about the route, steps, terrain and whether you will drive or walk; do not assume that a coastal villa opens directly onto sand.
- Consider Patara if beach days and coastal scenery are high on your list.
- Check the individual villa’s access to the sea and beach before choosing.
For village life above Kaş
The Almond Collection is based in Çukurbağ village above Kaş. Stone houses, gardens and private pools give the stay a different emphasis from being beside the shoreline: the villa can be somewhere to spend the day, with town and the coast forming part of a wider holiday.
It is worth considering for families or friends who like a relaxed base, cooking at home and taking outings when they feel like it. The village setting also makes it an interesting option for guests drawn to walking and the inland landscape.
Choose it because that pattern appeals to you. Check the particular house’s layout, road approach and journeys to the places you plan to visit. If you intend to work during your stay, ask for a recent connection check and a suitable workspace rather than relying on the presence of Wi-Fi alone.
- Consider Almond if you want a village base with access to Kaş and the wider coast.
- Plan transport around your likely outings and confirm practical details for your chosen house.
For an elevated retreat above the coast
Liberty Villas 33 is designed around an elevated setting in Yeniköy above Kaş. The emphasis is on the outlook, the pool terrace and time at the villa, with the coast as somewhere to visit during the stay.
Its four-bedroom layout makes it a candidate for families and groups looking for a shared base. It may also appeal to guests who want quiet time for reading or writing, or who are interested in exploring walking routes in the wider area.
The approach deserves attention: ask about gradients, road conditions, parking and the vehicle that suits your group and luggage. Confirm Liberty Villas 33’s opening timetable and bookable dates before arranging travel. For remote work, request current connectivity details and discuss any essential requirements directly.
- Consider Liberty if the villa, its outlook and time together are central to the holiday.
- Confirm access, opening dates and availability while planning your stay.
Compare the details that will shape every day
Once a setting appeals to you, compare the actual accommodation. A collection name cannot tell you whether a terrace is suitable for young children, whether the approach has steep steps, or whether everyone in your party will be comfortable with the drive.
Give the host a picture of your group and your plans. A family with a pushchair, friends sharing a hire car and someone travelling with limited mobility may need quite different advice about the same property.
- Bedrooms, sleeping arrangements and bathroom layout for your group.
- Steps, slopes, pool access and any mobility requirements.
- The road approach, parking and transport needed for regular outings.
- Shade, air conditioning and the spaces where you expect to spend time.
- Current availability, total cost and the booking terms for your dates.
A split stay can give you both
If you have enough time, you can ask about combining an inland stay with time in the Patara area. A few days around Çukurbağ or Yeniköy followed by a coast-focused stay would let each setting have its own place in the holiday.
The Almond Collection already introduces a Patara and Çukurbağ split-stay option. Treat any combination as something to arrange around real availability, minimum stays and the practicalities of moving between properties. Confirm transfers and any other services before relying on them.
Allow the moving day some breathing room. A split stay works best when both parts feel settled, with enough time to enjoy each place.
Local help to make the most of either setting
Where you stay is only part of the holiday. The Lycian Collection’s concierge brings together local experiences and practical help, including dining recommendations, boat charters, guided walks, private transfers and private chef arrangements.
For a coastal stay, that might mean asking about a day on the water or a memorable dinner. For a village or mountain stay, it could be help choosing a walk, arranging an evening at the villa or planning transport. If you are considering a split stay, discuss the journey between properties alongside the accommodation.
Use the concierge page as a starting point for a conversation about your interests. Ask what can be arranged for your dates and chosen villa, and confirm availability, costs and arrangements before booking an experience.
Choose the base that suits you
Begin with Patara if the coast is the centre of your plans. Look at Almond if a village base above Kaş appeals. Consider Liberty if you want an elevated retreat where you will spend much of your time at the villa.
Then bring the choice back to the particular property and the people travelling with you. Share your dates, group size and priorities with us, and we can help you ask the right questions before deciding.
